Postmenopausal women more at risk for tooth loss due to periodontal disease

Postmenopausal women who have smoked are a much higher risk of losing teeth than women who have never smoked, according to the journal of American Dental Association.

The large clinical study was the first to examine comprehensive smoking histories. Of course, smoking has long been association with tooth loss, however, the startling statistics showed that postmenopausal women experience more tooth loss than male counterparts. This is regardless of having good oral practices such as brushing and flossing.
