Most health insurance plans sponsored by the “Obamacare” do not include dental insurance. In fact, most insurance plans before Obamacare provided minimal coverage. However, Obamacare did affect patient care and their oral health, particularly in terms of children’s dental insurance.
Specifically, Obamacare plans offered to children must include dental coverage. As a result, demand for pediatric dental services have increased, but it is complicated to submit dental services under health insurance plans in many cases.
Given the election of Donald Trump and the potential repeal and replace of Obamacare, the trend may be heading in the other direction. President Trump has already started signing executive orders to roll back aspects of Obamacare. So far, children’s dental insurance hasn’t been affected, but most likely in a competitively designed healthcare market it will.
Regardless of the politics, if they have coverage or not, most parents should be keen to take care of their child’s dental needs. In our Sandy Springs office we see our job is to make it as easy as possible for them to do this. If we can be of help please give us a call or drop us an email.
