Sandy Springs: Complete Dentistry without Warm Towels

Quality oral health care with unprecedented patient service.

Dentist near meWe’re a multi-specialty practice which means we can treat a lot of your oral health issues and cosmetic dentistry under one roof.  But we are not all things to all people.  And we aren’t trying to be all things to all people.

We focus on your oral health as it relates to your global health, but we are not your dietitian or physician and we shouldn’t be.  We can work with these specialists as a support team to what you eat and how your oral indicators might lead to other gateway issues.  While we are intimately involved in your wellness by keeping your oral health issues at a minimum, if not completely eliminated, we don’t tell you to eat more avocados and fewer bananas.  We do tell you to drink less soda because that directly relates to your oral health.  So it’s a balanced approach.

We recognize that a lot of things have changed in oral health care.  And we have been conservative leaders in the process.  We were one of the early practices that treated general patient pools with prosthodontic expertise.  We’ve been restoring dental implants for over 30 years.  We were one of the first to use digital x-rays 10 years ago.  But, we haven’t introduced warm damp towels into our practice and we don’t do massages.[1]  Nor do we douse you with laughing gas.  We can’t be all things to everyone, because it’s a distraction from what we need to do and that’s creating the right smile for you and your loved ones.

Occasionally,  we offer in-house endodontics, but refer out if we see the need.  We also offer in-house periodontics and implant placement to complement our restorative and cosmetic practice.  Whether you’re in for routine maintenance or full mouth reconstruction, you will enjoy unprecedented oral health care from a group of experienced dentists.  We are focused on your oral health and quality of life as it relates to your oral health.  Our team is devoted to changing your lives with the right smile that’s both beautiful and functional, all within your life style.  We’re a lot of old school experience operating with new techniques and technology.

So if you’re looking for quality care from a group of professionals that really care about you, gives us a call or check out our reviews and see what other patients have said about their experience with the Right Smile Center.

Sandy Springs: How to Choose the Right ‘Cosmetic’ Dentist

Top Prosthodontist near meOver the past decade there has been a dramatic appearance of ‘cosmetic dentists’ to the degree that almost every dentist is now a cosmetic dentist. Why? Because there is no such thing as a cosmetic dentist and therefore it is unregulated.  Because the term ‘cosmetic’ is unregulated there is no shortage of dentists pressing the envelope of ethics.

So how do choose the right dentist?

  1. Make sure your ‘cosmetic’ dentist is accredited by the American Dental Association and not just a member.  This would be a prosthodontic trained dentist, which is a 3 year post-doctoral dental degree specializing in aesthetic and functional dentistry.
  2. Don’t be fooled by all of the organizations that provide unaccredited certifications.  The only accredited specialties are those approved by the American Dental Association and cosmetic dentistry is not an approved credential.
  3. Select a prosthodontist who performs cosmetic dentistry every day.  Creating the right smile is more of an art than a science.
  4. Look for real reviews and a history of longevity within the field of prosthodontics.
  5. Request a consult and ask to see before and after results.
  6. Finally, trust your instincts.

A prosthodontist will have a significant amount of experience in complex cases.  According to Forbes Magazine the prosthodontist is the rarest dental specialty in the United States, making up less than 2% of the dentists.

So for the right smile make sure you have the right dentist, a prosthodontist.

Buckhead: Need a Cosmetic Dentist?

Visit an ADA approved Prosthodontist.

Cosmetic dentist near me

If you are in need of tooth restoration, or if you are unhappy with the way your smile looks, your first inclination may be to head to a cosmetic dentist. Technically, there is no such thing.  Instead, it may be wiser to head to a prosthodontic dentist.

Most patients, in fact, almost all patients have never heard of a prosthodontic dentist. However, these dentists are highly regarded and certified by the American Dental Association (ADA) as what you might term “a cosmetic dentist”.

Cosmetic dentistry is NOT a recognized ADA specialty.

This means that dental schools instruct dentists in techniques, methods, and specialized training in prosthodontics—not in cosmetic dentistry.

Prosthodontic dentists  are post-graduate, university trained in certain types of procedures that are used in cosmetic dentistry.

What’s more, prosthodontic dentists receive an additional three years of post-dental school training.  Of the 200,000 dentists in the United States, less than 2% are trained prosthodontists.  According to Forbes Magazine, prosthodontics is the rarest dental specialty in the country. There are only 560 of these dental specialists who are devoted to restoring and replacing teeth.

During their extra three years of training, prosthodontic dentists study anatomy of the head, neck, and mouth as well as esthetics (the cosmetic part of performing procedures). These dentists are trained to be experts in the field of aesthetic dentistry.  They are commonly considered the quarterbacks of implant dentistry.

Many prosthodontic dentists also help patients with maxillofacial procedures. Maxillofacial procedures are ones in which acquired and congenital defects are treated. These can be any defects of the head and neck due to trauma or injury, or they could be defects that were present at birth. However, in order to be licensed to practice maxillofacial procedures, a dentist must complete an additional year of training. This is an extra year after the three extra years required for becoming a prosthodontic dentist.

If you’re in need of cosmetic dentistry, go with a pro, a prosthodontic dentist.

Dentist Sandy Springs: Implants Can Change your life!

Implant dentist near meI’m in my mid-forties and have severe gum disease. Last week I had a molar extracted.   I’ve done a lot of research and it seems that dental implants might be the only way to save my bone line as I age.  It’s totally terrifying seeing the pictures of what will happen to my face if I opt to gracefully lose my teeth and wait for dentures.”

Implants preserve facial bone structure.  They are permanent, comfortable and most patients forget they have one.  They osseointegrate into your bone structure and allow you to look good and eat like you never lost a tooth.

When choosing a dental team to have this done, choose one that has the appropriate experience, knowledge and credentials to accomplish the task.  Please don’t choose based on price, because there are a lot of corners that can be cut without your ability to detect them.

Our office has the reputation in the industry and community you can trust.  We offer free consultation appointments and individualized care beyond comparison.  But don’t take our word for it, read over 470 reviews at:

If you choose to have this procedure completed, you won’t regret it.  It will improve your lifestyle and you will want to smile and eat with your new teeth.  Scheinfeld, Bock and Orland can correct your problem of missing teeth. Sandy Springs Dentist: Breast Cancer and Oral Health Care

Sandy Springs dentist near me
Angelina had a significantly elevated risk of developing breast cancer due to mutation of the BRCA1 gene

Studies show a link between breast cancer and dental health.

After heart disease, breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women in the United States.  You may be 11 times more likely to develop breast cancer if you have poor oral health or periodontal disease.

The Journal of Breast Cancer Research and Treatment conducted a survey of over 3,000 women and found that individuals with chronic periodontal disease had a higher occurrence of breast cancer.

Given that about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer over the course of their lifetime,[1]  many women’s lives could be saved if breast cancer was diagnosed earlier, and early diagnosis could be achieved if there were more and easier opportunities to do so.

The method of early diagnosis is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration, but researchers found that the protein levels in saliva have shown the potential to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care of breast cancer.

Salivary testing has some real advantages over blood testing.  The collection of saliva is safe, non-invasive, and collectable without causing a patient any pain or discomfort.  Dentists would be the appropriate health care provider to take periodic saliva samples during regularly scheduled visits.   Properly integrated into the examination process, this would aid patients and physicians before, during, and after diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

The use of saliva testing would be an annual adjunct bench mark in women’s annual health care.  Patients would still need to undergo routine breast cancer exams, including mammography and blood tests, but there should be a greater chance of early detection with the use of all of these screening tests.

Given the links, good oral health care is very important to your global health care.  If we can be of service or answer any of your questions feel free to contact us.

[1] In 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 57,650 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer, with almost 40,000 deaths in 2011 alone.

Dentist Dunwoody: The Importance of Oral Hygiene

Dunwoody Dentist near meGood oral hygiene is important for maintaining your overall health.   It is generally appreciated within the dental and medical community that poor oral health can be linked to heart and lung disease, diabetes, stroke, extremely high-birth weight, premature births and now, Alzheimer’s disease. The presence of oral problems is usually the first warning signs of some of these general health issues.  This consensus among the various healthcare providers has risen to level that the U.S. Surgeon General has issued policy statements on oral health as a strong indicator of overall health and well-being (CDC, 2006).

Brushing and flossing have risen in importance as your key ‘between visits’ maintenance toolsIn addition, using the proper products for home care such as an electric toothbrush and ADA approved toothpastes and washes are equally important.  Without consistent care, several general as well as oral health problems may result or be exacerbated.  For all ages, you should consult with your dental care provider about using supplemental fluoride; especially if your water is not fluoridated or the majority of your water consumption is through bottled water.  In those areas without fluoride in the water, the rate of tooth decay and other health issues is much higher.

While practicing good oral hygiene is vital to your health, there is only so much that brushing and flossing can do.  Your average patient can easily overlook conditions that could greatly complicate or even end one’s life.  Thus, visiting your dentist for regular checkups is a vital part of your overall health care.  “Routine dental exams uncover problems that can be easily treated in the early stages, when damage is minimal” (American Dental Association [ADA], 2008).  Since gum disease is acknowledged as a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and certain forms of cancer, regular visits to your dentist can help prevent and treat these potential diseases.  By treating conditions early and learning from your dentist how to prevent oral health issues, you can achieve better overall health and ultimately better the quality of your life.

Your dental care is an important aspect of your general health care.  So you need to make sure you find a dentist that is right for you and your family. This can be a difficult process.  Look for someone who’s competent and you feel comfortable with, one you can have a collaborative relationship with. This is important because there are conditions and problems that were not discussed in this article that the dentist will need to pay attention to during your regular checkups. Hopefully after reading this article, you will have a heightened understanding of the basic need for good oral health.  If you have additional questions or concerns feel free to contact us.
